At just a short distance we find the Cascata dell\u2019Acquacheta: these falls are mentioned in the Divine Comedy (Inf. XVI, vv. 94-105): \u201cEven as that stream which holdeth its own course\/ The first from Monte Veso tow\u2019rds the East,\/ Upon the left-hand slope of Apennine,\/ Which is above called Acquacheta, ere\/ It down descendeth into its low bed,\/ And at Forli is vacant of that name,\/ Reverberates there above San Benedetto\/ From Alps, by falling at a single leap,\/ Where for a thousand there were room enough;\/ Thus downward from a bank precipitate,\/ We found resounding that dark-tinted water,\/ So that it soon the ear would have offended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/6&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/6&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>\u201cCome quel fiume c\u2019ha proprio cammino<br \/>\nprima da Monte Veso inver levante,<br \/>\ndalla sinistra costa d\u2019Apennino,<br \/>\nche si chiama Acquacheta suso, avante<br \/>\nche si divalli gi\u00f9 nel basso letto,<br \/>\ne a Forl\u00ec di quel nome \u00e8 vacante,<br \/>\nrimbomba l\u00e0 sovra San Benedetto<br \/>\ndell\u2019Alpe per cadere ad una scesa<br \/>\nove dovria per mille essere recetto;<br \/>\ncos\u00ec, gi\u00f9 d\u2019una ripa discoscesa,<br \/>\ntrovammo risonar quell\u2019acqua tinta,<br \/>\ns\u00ec che \u2018n poc\u2019ora avria l\u2019orecchia offesa\u201d.<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/6&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1777&#8243; img_size=&#8221;350&#215;350&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/6&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]SAN BENEDETTO IN ALPE.<br \/>\nThis Benedictine abbey can be reached on foot from the town by travelling along via Dante Alighieri, named after the poet who came here at the beginning of the 14th century. Only the belltower, part of the apse, a watch-tower, part of the cloister, and an impressive crypt remain of what was the original structure.
